The Polyvalent is Velo Orange’s “do-it-all” frameset. It is the ideal platform to build a sturdy tourer, practical commuter, comfortable all-day randonneur, or a rugged gravel bike.

Tire clearance is generous. With fenders: 650b x 48 or 26 x 2.3” (smooth). Forgoing fenders, the Polyvalent can gobble up 650b x 2.1” or 26x2.3 (knobby).

There are star reinforcements on nearly every braze-on on the frame and fork. The rear brake routing is internal and features super easy installation via a brazed in tube - no more fishing for the housing.

The rear end of the bike features dedicated rack and fender mounts.

The fork has an elegant French-style bend that features braze-ons for a multitude of mounting options including: Rando-style front racks, side-mounted cargo cages, and low-rider pannier racks.

The seatstays wrap elegantly around the integrated seat collar and nearly meet at a point.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Velo Orange frame without proper fender mounts that face the tire to create a perfect fender installation every time.

Versatility personified

I love this bike. I wanted a grocery store bike and this one fits the bill perfectly. 650b x 42 tires, fenders, a huge front bag , rear rack and “shopping bag panniers”. I used it as a fridge cleaner of my spare parts so I only needed to purchase a pair of through axle hubs. It’s a fantastic product. We’ll done!

Some old features, some new features, for downtube friction shifters...

I got started with ten-speed bikes in 1968 and have since been a commuter/occasional tourist/local utility runs sort of biker, year round through sunshine, rain, sleet, and snow. These two v.5 Polyvalent framesets include a worthwhile combination of both old and new features. Recommended; Schwalbe produces a 650b/27.5x1.65 Marathon tire which could be the "universal" tire for these bikes.

My new Polyvalent Diamond Frameset - Sage Metallic

This frameset includes a combination of attractive features, partly old school and partly modern, so I got one. I was thinking about going with 26" wheels but got to talking with Scott of Velo Orange and then saw this article https://www.renehersecycles.com/the-porteurs-of-paris/ which says that these working-class delivery bikes commonly used 650b/27.5 wheels having fat tires as ridden by professional riders on city streets. I have never had a bike with disc brakes and this frameset having thru-axles is what more-or-less sealed the deal because disc brakes need thru-axles. To note, this frameset has notably short front fork trail geometry so it will not handle quite like your ordinary touring bike and you will need to pay attention to and stay on top of this bike's steering.
