Randonneur Front Rack
This is a stainless steel front rack that is perfect for a handlebar bag, tied-down dry bag, or basket.
All Velo Orange racks are made from polished tubular stainless steel, so they will never rust, flake, and can be re-polished to a mirror shine even after years of use. As with our other racks, there are light mounts on the side of the platform. The platform is 20.7 cm long and 10.2 cm wide. The tombstone (backstop) is 9.5 cm tall.
If you plan on getting into offroad exploration, we suggest using a toe strap on the bottom of your bag to ensure it says put over the rough stuff.
If you are getting a custom frame made, we suggest sending the rack to the builder beforehand and let them know that the eyelets should be about 100mm below the bottom of the fork crown.
12lbs (5.4kg) max weight capacity.
All mounting hardware is included. Installation instructions found here.
Compatibility note: Your fork's eyelets need to be 100mm from the fork crown bolt. Anything larger than that and this rack probably won't work. In that case, we suggest the VO Flat Pack Rack for greater adjustability.

It's a beautiful little rack and seems nicely built. I like it. But I do think that a VO rack sold on this site should be compatible with a current production VO frame, right out of the box, without the need to find and purchase additional hardware elsewhere. The crown bolt isn't quite long enough to reach through the larger crown of their new Pass Hunter fork.
Have long been a big fan of these VO front racks but this is the first one that doesn't have a fender attachment! The VO rando racks used to have a threaded boss under the center cross-member. All the other VO racks I'm using have this boss. (Also, all the Nitto, GB, and RH racks I use have this forward fender attachment.)
Having a forward stabilizing point for the front run of your fender makes it a lot more stable. Fenders last a lot longer with that forward attachment point and it's a reason all by itself to use a small front rack like this.
The diving board is not my favorite crown attachment, but it's more versatile than other methods and makes this rack fit more bikes. The diving board can bolt straight to the fork crown bolt hole, as suggested, but you can also straighten it out and let it bolt to the fender attachment under the crown, either the a built-in under-crown attachment like VO frames have, or you can drill a hole and pass a daruma through it so that the diving board is sandwiched between fender and fork crown underside. Works great that way on my Polyvalent.
A nice little rack that, after some friendly and helpful advice from VO customer service, I got to fit on an old Koga Miyata. Some minimal bending got the legs to meet the braze-ons. I found it easy to make it sit parallel with the top tube. Finish looks good to my eyes. Heavier than a similar model from Nitto, but not that I notice when riding. My only regret is that I wish I bought the one with integrated decaleur as I did when I got one for my bike with canti studs. Very happy with this rack.
So far so good. Love the look!
