Elkhide Sewn-on Bar Covers, Hand Cut
These covers are made of thick, but very very soft, elk hide. They are pre-perforated and cut extra long so as to fit even the widest bars. They work on drop bars, mustache bars, and many city bike bars. It's available in Espresso (a rich brown) and Black.
Here are a few quotes from customers:
"The MS 150 was this weekend , and I put the elk hide through the paces. Saturdays ride gave us a 5 hour ride in a medium rain.... The bar covers worked great. and this was without a treatment of any sort. I will, I just didn't have time before the ride. Sundays ride let us dry out a bit and the covers are still in fine shape."
"This elk hide is fantastic stuff. Truly. I enjoyed just fondling and sniffing the stuff.... She's been looking at $1000 bags and she's impressed by this elk hide. Top notch in every way."
"Dimensions of the cover are perfect. Length was long enough for my 46 cm Nitto Noodles, and width was just right, with and without the brake cable underneath."
"Put them on last night. About an hour and a half or so... The leather pulls together nicely and the sticky tape holds well. On the second side my seam started to drift to the inside a bit, but was able to massage it back in place."
"I wanted to let you know that I installed the elk hide on my bars last night and it looks and feels great..... I see this stuff lasting at least a decade. Very nice, I will definitely put it on other bikes."
Thick waxed thread and special blunt-point harness maker's needles are included, as are comprehensive illustrated instructions. It takes about two hours of mindless stitching to install. (Can't see the perforations? Pull the leather width-wise.) Use VO Saddle Care for wet-weather protection. The covers will stretch to fit over brake and shift cables, but they will not fit over gel pads.
The bar covers are long enough (57cm) to cover even 48cm wide bars; width is 7.5cm. The price is per pair; end plugs are not included.
We also stock matching elk hide toe clip covers and chain stay protector.
Leather is a natural and irregular material, so colors may vary from those shown in photos.
