Top Tools for Terrific Home Mechanics

One of the cornerstones of the Velo Orange mission is to produce the parts that keep bikes on the road longer. Whether it’s offering French-thread bottom brackets, a wide range of seatpost sizes, or 1" threaded headsets, we aim to provide solutions where others might just give up and let a classic frame languish in a shed.
It’s no secret that a large percentage of our customers are "home mechanics." One of the best things about bicycles is that most repairs are transparent: you can actually see the derailleur move or observe exactly how true a wheel is. Today, we wanted to highlight a few standout tools we stock that make these jobs easier, faster, and a lot more enjoyable.
For those running nutted axles, this is a masterclass in ergonomics. The handle is specifically angled to prevent you from jamming your knuckles between the tool and the stays. It's a perfect example of Runwell’s user-oriented design. It fits the hand so well you might actually look forward to chain tensioning.

A high quality hex wrench set pays for itself very quickly. Not only are the wrenches themselves of the utmost super quality, the carrier has an exceptionally smooth insertion and removal action. That's something you'll notice before the wrench even touches a bolt. Each wrench features a long, flat section for higher torque applications as well a ball-end for getting into those hard to reach places.
Brass & Double-Ended Ferrules

Sometimes it’s the smallest parts that solve the biggest headaches. Our brass ferrules add a touch of class and durability to any cable housing. Even more helpful are the double-ended ferrules, which allow you to splice two pieces of housing together. This is a lifesaver when you're dealing with internal routing or simply need to extend a line without rerouting the entire bike from scratch.

Every cyclist needs a reliable set of levers. These are solid, packable, and incredibly durable. The bright blue color is a subtle lifesaver, making them easy to spot on a cluttered workbench or at the bottom of the "black hole" that is a saddlebag.

Runwell Cog and Lockring Wrench

This premier cog and lockring wrench was developed after the Runwell engineers had conversations with European track racing mechanics about what they needed on the boardside. It's perfect for those riding fixed gear for swapping cogs and loosening lock rings. It's hefty and has a good feel, exactly what you want out of your tools.
The classic 3-way wrench, refined. With 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm hex heads, this Y-shape is comfortable and provides excellent leverage. We offer both straight-end and ball-end versions depending on whether you prioritize high torque or hard-to-reach angles.

There you have it - a quick tally of interesting tools to help the home DIY-er keep their beloved bike on the road. Investing in the right tool doesn't just make the job easier; it makes the maintenance part of the adventure.
