The Piolet is our bikepacking and rough-road riding frame. It's designed for off-road touring, including dirt and gravel roads, double track, and single track. We built it to be sturdy, simple, and very capable. As with our other frames it's double butted chromoly steel. The fork is triple butted for reduced weight and extra strength. The seatstays come together in a cool mono-stay wishbone and compliment the segmented fork. The frameset is covered in bosses for easily mounting any racks, water-bottles, gear cages, and even fenders. It's happily set up in bikepacking fashion or as a traditional rack and bag tourer!

The Piolet handles similarly to a XC mountain bike, but slightly more in the touring direction. Feels natural with drop bars or flat bars. Non-suspension corrected fork handles predictably with or without a load!

Size Small is designed around 26 x 2.4" tires. Medium, Large, and XL use 29 x 2.4" or 27.5 x 2.8" tires.

I like it!

A very nice frame for the price. I wasn't sure about the color at first but it's grown on me, it looks great in bright sunlight.
I'm taking it on a long tour this spring, I'll write another review after that.

Comfortable Cadillac for the road and trail

This is one lean mean green machine. I have built this up to do double duty. Currently I have it in road + light gravel mode. With 700x41 Surly tires this is a great every day bike. Stable is the way I describe how it rides with this setup. I can feel confident in riding with our without hands as well. Input can feel a bit sluggish on the road(this is to be expected).

If you are looking between the Polyvalent and the Piolet. I have both and the Polyvalent is like a small commuter car. Quick and zippy easy to accelerate and ready for anything you throw at it. But you do feel the road chatter on the Polyvalent. This is more like a Cadillac slower to accelerate, turn, and like you are riding on a cloud. But if you give it some extra input it will surprise you in what it can do.

Also if you are looking for a shorter stem length I have an XL in both the Polyvalent 2022 and the Piolet 2023. I have a 563mm reach from tip of saddle to back of bar. I use a 110mm Stem on the Polyvalent and a 70mm stem on the Piolet. This is with the VO Grand Cru Long Setback Seatpost, VO Nouveau Randonneur Handlebar(46), and a Brook C17 on each.

I plan to add some bigger meats built up with Chris King hubs. This will be to match the Bottom Bracket and Headset later once the trails open up next spring. As well as some better brakes.

TLDR It is a great frame ready for the gravel, road, and some under biked mountain trials.

Great frame, but sizing was tough

I love my Piolet. This bike feels super planted and smooth and eats up trails like it’s nothing. Currently have it set up as a gravel/bike packing set up but everything feels so interchangeable that I might make it a jammer/ATB instead.

my only problem as someone who is stuck between frame sizes I wish I’d have gotten a M instead of a L. Guess I’ll have to get another one!

Piolet all day

I really like the ride. I purchased the frame to be my new bikepacking/gravel touring bike. It does a great job. I ride it with some comfy flat bars. It handles gear well and once up and riding I don't even notice the load too much.

One of a kind

I bought this frame back in March. It took me four months to get everything in and built up. It is now the exact bike I wanted. It is outfitted with the VO Grand Cru gooseneck stem, VO headset, Growtac Equal mechanical brakes, Curve Walmer 60cm dropbars, RaceFace Atlas Cranks, Shimano XT 11-46 cassette, Profile Racing Hubs, Sun Ringle rims, and Teravail Sparwood 29x2.2 tires. Originally I had some Specialized Butcher 29x2.6 tires on, but they were a bit too meaty. Great for single track, but not optimal for gravel.
I love this bike. It rides great, and fits me perfectly. I wanted a gravel/bikepacking rig, and that's how I built this up. It's definitely a unique ride, and the only one like it I've seen. I do not regret this purchase at all.
