The Pass Hunter frameset is the speediest of our disc offerings and is designed for light-packing adventures over mountain passes, gravel riding, sport touring, and even the weekend club ride!

While this may look like a traditional randonneur, don't let that elegant Metallic Graphite paint and silver VeloORANGE logo fool you. This frameset is packed with modern design and features.

The wishbone rear triangle is a Velo Orange custom design. By simplifying the connection points, it makes the rear end light and springy for optimal power transfer.

The main triangle uses an oversized 35.0mm downtube and a standard 28.6 top tube. It makes the handling simply exquisite. The bike is feels planted and comfortable and has flex in all the right places.

The headtube is tapered to allow the use of aftermarket carbon forks that are available such as Rodeo Labs and Whisky, along with many others that fit into the "utili-fork" genre. The steel fork offered with the frameset is designed to be used with cargo cages, fenders, front racks like our Constructeur, Rando, and Flat Pack Rack, amongst others.

I purchased this as a graduation gift because there is nothing like building a bike just the way you want. This was going to be my first bike with ‘modern features’ (tubeless tires, disc brakes, internal cable routing, integrated shifting (yes!), and thru axles). The total build came in at just over 25 pounds (25.4). I used all alloy parts, skipping any carbon for now. That might be heavy for some, but weight has never been much of a concern. Yes, I agree with others that the fork is heavy (1400+ grams), maybe a carbon one is in my future. To me, the Pass Hunter is more of an ATB than a gravel-specific bike, which was one of the biggest selling points for me. I don’t ride competitively, mainly commuting and leisurely rides at a Kermit/Miss Piggy speed. I live in NorCal where there are tons of hills but with the gearing I set the bike up with, it climbs like a billy goat and is very stable in descents. You should research your measurements to find out which size frame would suit you best. I went with the small frame and had a genuine fear that there would be toe overlap, but with a 165mm crank (I’m using a 155), 650b wheels, and a pedal platform under four inches, there is none of that. One more recommendation and this is a biggie. I just bought the frame when I should have added the headset as well to save on shipping. Don’t forget the headset! The VO headset is a thing of beauty and at a price point lower than anything out there. I have logged about 50 miles so far but I don’t see my opinion of this bike's ability/performance changing. If you are on the fence like I was, all I can say is that I have no regrets.

I was looking for a bike that could handle the less than stellar roads here in northeast Pennsylvania. It would have to be compliant, climb well and look great. Well, all boxes have been checked.
I built it up with the 50.4 Grand Cru Crankset, 11-32 cassette, SRAM RED shifters, SRAM Force derailleurs and Growth Equal brakes. I took the Grand Cru stem, Grand Cru seat post and the Nouveau Randonneur handlebars from my previous road bike. I added a set of carbon wheels and 700X32mm tires and presto.
It initially weighed in at over 23lbs. I thought this to be a little on the heavy side, until I finally got out for a ride. This bike rides like a 17lb race bike. It climbs so well that I'm not sure if it is the 46/30 crankset or the frame itself.
The frame is so smooth, my 57 year old body can ride for 3-4 hours with no issues. I love the rear brake routing and I'm a big fan of full brake housing. I also can't say enough about the stopping power of the Growth Equal brakes. I'm a rim brake fan and own 2 sets of Grand Cru Long Reach brakes. But this is a whole new dimension in stopping.
The cool blue with silver components and black drive train make this the prettiest bike in my stable, except for the Piolet, well, I'm not sure. They're both pretty awesome!

Frame is awesome🧡, fork is an anchor 😬

The frame itself is awesome! It’s looks awesome, it’s pretty light, has an amazing feel to it! To make it clear - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! However there are few things that surprised me and seemed to be not very well thought. I got size small, so there’s a quite a bit of toe overlap I’ll be dealing with, which I fine and I guess it’s just small frames issue in general? I was surprised there’s not much clearance between pedal and ground when it’s all the way down so, not sure what’s up with that because the crank is a standard size… Also one minor thing that bummed me out - those awesome silver cables turned out to be too short! So ended up having to add a piece of black cable for both brakes. And finally - the pretty major issue - the fork is almost as heavy as the frame itself and was a huge bummer (3.19 lbs) 😑 we had to work pretty hard to fit in another carbon fork on it because needed the adapter and it’s just was kind of a pain.
Ready bike with another fork feels quite nice light, but also sturdy. The builder of my bike put in a lot of thought into it though.
Pedal issue I guess I’ll have to learn to be mindful of it and hopefully I’ll just get used to it. But would be cool if it would be thought through better in future 🤷🏻‍♀️

2022 large pass hunter. Nice looking frame, great looking welds and an excellent finish. Rides very well. Fast, stable, predictable steering. The only real negative I have is the rear brake routing. I wish it was on top of the chain stay like the polyvalent instead of under and looped around.
Overall I’m very happy with this purchase and should get a lifetime of riding out of it.
