Haven't been built yet.

Sweet!

This was the first set of wheels I've ever built, so I'm no expert, but I ended up with a perfectly true wheel after a few tries.

I also used single butted spokes, so I did a bit of forming on the leading spokes at the hub to get them fitting well and straightened out.

36 spoke version.

Bomber Wheel

My goal with this rim is to have a very strong rear wheel for commuting. Unfortunately it is becoming increasingly difficult to find 36 spoke hubs and rims. I built this wheel with a Hope single speed hub to work with the Pinion gearbox drivetrain. The wheel feels great so far, smooth rolling and confidence inspiring with loaded panniers. Time will tell how it holds up, but I am optimistic. I would definitely build more wheels with this rim.

I've been using these rims on my daily ride for nine months now, and I'd have to say they are pretty good. Here's a few things about my experience with them:

-Rims don't seem to wear too fast(Kool Stop salmon and black pads)
-Eyelets are nice
-No complaints on a 300+ mile loaded tour(System weight including rider about 300 lbs)
-No complaints with tubeless
-Very strong(Story: I was speeding down and inclined parking lot and cased the rear wheel on a sharp curb I flew over at an angle(hard enough to snakebite the under-inflated tire), resulting in two slits that I had to plug and stitch. There was no damage to the rim, and no truing was necessary. Couldn't tell that anything had happened to the rim at all.)
-Did take a bit to break in the polished braking surface

Rims are 36h 650b, Spokes are Sapim Race for both sides in the front and NDS in the rear, and Sapim Strong for the rear DS. Polyax Nipples. Laced by myself, admittedly at too low tension, which I need to fix. They have always worn 47mm Specialized Pathfinder Pro tires and been used with roller cam brakes.

I do wish there was a non-polished version available, both to lower cost and to have a little more aluminum for the brakes to wear through. There aren't many options for rim brake tubeless ready 650b rims.

The perfect touring rim

These rims are great! I've built a set of 26" and 650b versions for different projects and both laced up true and round without issue. They've been holding up well to loaded touring on rough terrain.

My only gripe is that they don't offer a machined sidewall version for folks running rim brakes still. So I hit the sidewalls with a bit of medium coarse sand paper to give a bit of bite for my cantilever rim brakes, and I'm happy with the results even in the wet.

I've had a set of the old VO 650b Diagonale rims on my commuter for the last 8 years of daily NYC riding and they're still going strong. These are significantly more substantial feeling, so I've got no doubt they'll last forever.

Great work VO!
