The Velo Orange Rear Cassette Hub is specially designed for touring, randonneuring, and commuting in all weather conditions. The hub's high flanges allow room for large, sealed cartridge bearings so your hubs will be spinning happily for a long time.

The hub includes replaceable endcaps to convert between 130mm and 135mm spacing. The drive side endcaps are identical, while the non-drive side endcap for the 135mm set is 5mm longer, meaning that if you switch from one width to another, you'll likely have to have your wheel re-dished, slightly.

The freehub features a tool-free disassembly for maintenance or roadside driveside spoke replacement.

Available in Polished Silver and Smooth Noir finishes.

  • Frame Spacing: 130mm or 135mm (replaceable endcaps included)
  • Spoke Flange Diameter: 58mm
  • Left Center-to-Flange (130mm spacing): 37.1mm
  • Left Center-to-Flange (135mm spacing): 34.4mm

  • Right Center-to-Flange (135mm spacing): 17.45mm
  • Weight: 290g w/ Shimano FHB
  • Drilling: 32 or 36 hole
  • Freehub Body (let us know in your order's comments which you'd prefer): 11 speed compatible Shimano, Campagnolo (we are out of stock of Campy at present) or Sram XDR.

Here's a video discussing disassembly and reassembly of the rear hub for maintenance. Spoiler, it's super easy.

Almost perfect

Yup, this is the hub for me. Rim brake, sealed bearing, and doesn't sound like a swarm of hornets. Used for a year so far several thousand km commuting touring and bikepacking. Only complaint is that it doesn't freewheel very well for some reason. Looks like another reviewer noticed this too. Always a slack chain when coasting. Any remedy for this? Might try finish line instead of Phil on the pawls. Freehub is fully broken in but still so stiff...

Great hub for people that don't want hub problems.

Reasonable price, good looks, smooth operation, kudos for the two over-locknut spacing options, excellent ability to replace a broken spoke on the roadside. But, even packed with grease the rachet is noisier than the previous VO hubs (annoying). Despite the noise it's truly a great hub for serious riding.

All Goodness

Great modern design with a really nice finish. I went with the Campy freehub body which was an easy swap. The hub also has a competitive weight, slightly lighter than Sun XCD, and 100 grams lower than Grand Bois.

Old bike mechanic thoughts

Good quality 1st impressions! Love I can take off free hub without any tools to lubricant body. Built bike for touring wanted this hub in the event I break a spoke. Have had happen in the past lives.

Good bearings, smooth, nice, but freehub is really stiff

I'm not concerned with shaving every gram, or eliminating every source of friction, etc. I don't use ceramic bearings or fancy headsets. I'm not that kind of person, so please don't think the following is hyperbole.

The freehub on this hub is really, really stiff. When I coast downhill I can feel and see the chain go slack from the resistance in the free hub. For years I rode on midgrade shimano deore hubs, with full labyrinth seals. I have had 2 or 3 of them, and never experienced resistance anything like this, even though they are super overkill sealed. So this is not just a case of me not knowing how weather-sealed hubs feel.
I've ridden this hub about 500 miles now, and I almost feel like they have gotten worse over time, rather than wearing in as I would expect.

As a side note, when I finally opened it up this morning, I saw that the freehub was full of white lithium grease in the pawls. I had noticed this when I first bought the hub, and I wiped as much of it off as I could, but it was seeping residual grease from under the pawls. I spayed it out completely and put in dumonde freehub oil, but it's still just so stiff! It's probably just my imagination, but I swear I can feel the drag when I'm riding...

Anyways, I actually do like these hubs, they certainly fill a niche. But I may not spring for these again, unless the seals finally loosen up in my next few hundred miles.
