The original fenders to my vintage Miyata 618GT were misplaced in a move and it is a relief to have the classic quality and feel back with these new VO fenders. They were a mini-nightmare to install (youtube has some helpful videos!) and I had to source some parts to fit the front fork but once installed they have so far worked well and I'm pleased with the purchase.
I've done maybe 5-6 sets of VO fenders on a couple sports tourers, a couple vintage race bikes, a vintage rigid MTB and my daily commuter. They are a stone b*tch to do the first time out, but it gets easier and more intuitive with each succeeding attempt. Once dialed in, they are solid, rattle free and work as intended.
These fenders work well and look great on my 1990 Miyata 1000LT but installing them required a fair bit of time with a hacksaw to custom fit everything, it took me three days to get them on properly. Now that they're on there, they're pretty awesome.
These fenders are great. I saw someone complaining about them rattling or cracking, but that's operator error. Just be sure to mount them well and use the leather washers.
The one thing I would like to see if the availability of single fender stays. They come in pairs, but if you are mounting the front fender without a rack to attach it to, then you really should be using a pair of stays on the front -- so that's 3 total.
These will crack in half and break in the middle of your commute potentially damaging your tires.
I ride everyday to work and they look pretty but in reality they won’t handle the elements of urban commuting. Chicago city roads are terrible and these fenders will constantly shake rattle till they break apart… if you need fenders for commuting, plastic fenders will last longer.
Sorry to hear the fenders cracked on you. Can you please send our customer service an email with any photos and order details and we can see what we can do?
