Simple, effective solution when the cantis used to be supported by the stem

I got this to fix a problem I created by wanting to replace my rusting quill stem and put some modern bars on. My bike originally ran the housing to a stop in the stem before the cable dropped to the front brake. Hmmmm. There are options that can go through a fork bolt hole. They often have the advantage of providing a 'hook' to keep the transverse cable from possibly hitting the tire. But I don't like the torque effect from the top to the anchor. And they don't fit stylistically.

But these solve the problem just like they could have in 1989. Hey wait, similar parts DID do that in 1989 :-) Nice to see VeloOrange still offers them readilly

One note: If you have only a thin washer in the thread stack, this could be an issue for you. The ring has the pin to slot into the steerer tube in place of the washer between the nut and lockring. But in my case I was worried because that washer was originally about half the thickness of this plate. Worked out fine because I had a few spare threads. But if you don't, you might be challenged

It’ll work

It works. The tab on the spine that keeps it in place didn’t hold up long. But it still holds the cable stop.
