Trekking handlebars are very popular in Europe. In some areas of Northern Europe half the cyclists seem to use them! Their advantages include multiple hand positions that suit both road and off-road riding and a variety of possible brake lever and shifter positions.

The wide position is great for climbing and allows for good control over rough terrain, especially when heavily loaded.

I rode with these for about a year. I did a 90 mile gravel race with them and a little bike packing, in addition to casual rides etc. Honestly, I don’t like them. I got them because I’m a comfort junkie when it comes to bikes and will almost always go with the most comfortable option when given the choice. I was excited at the prospect of lots of hand positions and really wanted them to be as comfortable as they seem in concept. In reality, the hand positions all felt the same. They all seemed to put weight on the same parts of my hand. The different positions also felt really close together and didn’t change my body geo in a significant way. The brakes/shifters are way too close together, affording little control. I probably could have played with other parts of my bike to make them work better, but I just didn’t feel inspired to. I have since replaced these with the VO Crazy Bar and am much happier.

great alternative to drop bars

I had a c6/c7 spinal fusion in my neck about 6 months ago, and I just can't handle the longer reach right now. These look great and the handling is still fine, and there are so many options for changing around your hand position.

Very practical

Bought two of these — one for my wife’s Trek hybrid bike, the second for my Specialized 650b hardtail mountain bike that am converting to a gravel/hybrid. Very convenient placement of hands and multiple alternative positions. No wonder they are very popular in N Europe, where people bike A LOT.

Really unusual, getting comments

I ride a Speialized hybrid. Iwas looking to both raise my bars and bring the regular hand rest position closer to me to shorten my reach. I've been having trouble with pretty severe numbness in my hands. Don't know why; maybe just aging. So far, I feel these bars have partly, but not wholly, solved the problem. I'm still experimenting with position, so it may get better. I do very much like the variety of possible hand positions. Also, the picture online gives a somewhat exaggerated impression of how far apart the front and back parts of the bars are, so the bars are not as much closer to me as I hoped. All in all, this is a good product.
