Colored Derailleur Cable Kits
One bike's worth, includes:
- two 700mm lengths lined SIS-compatible 5mm diameter housing
- one 300mm length lined SIS-compatible 5mm diameter housing
- one 2100mm length stretched stainless steel slick pre-stretched cable
- one 1500mm length stretched stainless steel slick pre-stretched cable
- 6 ferrules
- 2 cable crimps
These cables are on a Bertin C 37 restoration using friction shifting with Simplex LJ 5500 rear and Super LJ front derailleurs. The drawn stainless inner wires are extremely slick and move freely in the lined outer cable sheath. Shifts with Retrofriction levers are effortless and without binding. The cable outers have enough flex to comfortably follow the under bottom bracket cable routing and make a elegant curve at the rear cable stop to derailleur arc. Highly effective at a good price with little to no stretch after fitting.
I just got my 1970s Motobecane out of storage and back on the road. Of all the things I did, replacing the brake cables made the most difference. The brakes are definitely better than they have ever been. The kit included plenty of cable and plenty of housing. It was nice to find a brown similar to what was on the bike originally. Cutting with a diagonal cutter required a little clean up with a Dremel, which was easy. New derailleur cables wasn’t day and night, but it was still a big improvement. If you have an old bike, DO THIS!
