Rob's Dream Pass Hunter

by Igor Shteynbuk

My history with Velo Orange began around 2018 when I ordered a pair of gum brake hoods for an early 80s Bianchi road bike restoration.  As time passed my orders to VO grew bigger and bigger as I built various bikes over the years.  Incredible people and incredible products.

My fully restored (and modded to a light tourer) 92 Rocky Mountain Equipe was badly damaged in an accident with a careless car driver.  I needed a replacement and felt its time for a “dream build”, and after much deliberation settled on the VO Pass Hunter, which I’ve admired for years.  Interestingly, after building the bike, I took it for a test ride and everything was perfect - no adjustments needed from when I set it up.  I already have a vintage road bike, so comfort was my goal on this build, and very comfortable it is.  Also, what a beautifully made frame, not to mention all the components on it.  It came out exactly as I envisioned it.

Here is the list of components that went into this bike:

  • VO Pass Hunter frame/fork (small)
  • VO Single Ring N/W 42t 165mm crankset w/Shimano PD-M540 pedals
  • VO zero offset seatpost
  • VO cartridge headset
  • Shimano Deore RD-M6000 derailleur
  • Shimano Deore 11-42 cassette
  • Microshift 10 speed Shimano compatible shifter
  • DT Swiss G1800 650b wheels

  • Growtac Equal flat mount brakes

  • TRP RRL brake levers
  • Cane Creek GXC 60mm stem
  • Ritchey Comp Venturemax 42mm bars
  • Brooks B17 carved saddle and matching leather handlebar tape
  • High end Jagwire cabling (well worth the extra $$)

  • Lone Peak Micro Rack Pack (3L)
  • NiteRider Micro 850 headlight with K-Edge mount
  • Lezyne Stripdrive 300+ tail light
  • Crane copper bell
