Nouveau Randonneur Handlebar
With comfortable fit characteristics such as shorter reach, shallow drop, and a mellow backsweep, the Nouveau Randonneur Handlebar is optimally designed for long days and nights for riders using integrated shifters and aero brake levers.
The tops are ovalized and swept back ever so slightly from the stem clamp. This makes for a bigger area upon which your hands can rest. A wider palm base means road vibrations and impacts are distributed better and not centralized into a specific spot effectively reducing hand, wrist, and elbow fatigue. Additionally, the sweep lends itself better (than a straight top) to your hands' natural resting position.
The ramps are 105mm in length (measured from the center of the bend to the edge of the ramp). This gives enough real estate for a full hand's worth of a position behind the hood for cruising, but short enough to easily reach the hood for shifting, braking, and out of the saddle efforts. Measuring traditionally (from the center of the stem clamp to the furthest edge of the brake lever hood mount) the reach is 85mm.
The 128mm worth of drop is casual and the 12 degree worth of flare makes for terrific cornering stability and prevents your forearms from hitting the bars during punchy efforts or obstacle negotiation.
The Nouveau Randonneur Bar is available in three sizes (measured center to center at the hood): 42, 44, and 46cm, two finishes: High-Polished Silver and Smooth Noir, and accepts standard road components such as integrated shifters, aero brake levers, and bar-end shifters.
- Widths (measured center-to-center at the hoods): 42, 44, 46cm
- Backsweep: 5 degrees
- Ramp length: 105mm
- Traditional reach: 85mm
- Drop: 128mm
- Stem clamp diameter: 31.8mm
- Brake lever clamp diameter: 23.8mm
- Weight (44cm): 301g
*not compatible with SRAM Hydro levers due to the shifter's clamp design. Works fine with everything else including SRAM cable actuated brake levers.
I have a set of 46s on a midnight special. They are pretty amazing. Classic styling, nice and wide, comfortable flat tops with that slight sweep back, shallow drops, modern compact curve and the silver color is killer. Like a classic looking but modern feeling rando bar. I’d say the primary hand position is in the hoods. The drops are comfortable but for my setup the hoods are preferred. The price is pretty great as well.... just order them.
I'm building a bike from the ground up and chose these bars. I haven't finished the build so I can't speak for the feel while riding, but the bars are beautiful and as I've come to expect from VeloOrange the fit and finish is excellent. I also foresee that I'll really like the feel of the slightly elongated tops.
Installed them on one bike. Bought a second one to install on my other bike. They are comfortable. Do away with palm pain.
Nouveau Randonneur Handlebar
I had this same handlebar back a few years ago.Why did I ever change to another kind I will never understand why I did that.I have built my self a Surly Disc Trucker 52cm frame set and after trying out different handlebars I never did feel good with any on them. Then it hit me let me try the Nouveau Randonneur Handlebar again. As soon as I installed it and took a spin with it I could have kick my self for not getting this again long before now.The look along is great and the feel is even better.I am very happy to have a good looking and great feeling handlebar while I am out riding my bicycle.
