The Polyvalent is Velo Orange’s “do-it-all” frameset. It is the ideal platform to build a sturdy tourer, practical commuter, comfortable all-day randonneur, or a rugged gravel bike.

Tire clearance is generous. With fenders: 650b x 48 or 26 x 2.3” (smooth). Forgoing fenders, the Polyvalent can gobble up 650b x 2.1” or 26x2.3 (knobby).

The graceful, swoopy top tube is what we call a Low-Kicker. While especially useful for easily mounting and dismounting with a loaded bike, the lowered top tube also makes the frequent getting on and off the saddle in urban environments more comfortable. Lastly, for those that have limited flexibility, it allows the rider to have a super practical and beautiful bike with modern touches and clearances - something that was, until now, significantly lacking.

There are star reinforcements on nearly every braze-on on the frame and fork. The rear brake routing is internal and features super easy installation via a brazed in tube - no more fishing for the housing. The paint is a brilliant Metallic Glacier Blue.

The rear end of the bike features dedicated rack and fender mounts.

The fork has an elegant French-style bend that features braze-ons for a multitude of mounting options including: Rando-style front racks, side-mounted cargo cages, and low-rider pannier racks.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Velo Orange frame without proper fender mounts that face the tire to create a perfect fender installation every time.

Here are the specs:

  • Fork: 1 1/8" threadless, 4130 chromoly steel with elegant bend
  • Wheel Size: 650B or 26"

  • Fork Spacing: 12 x 100mm, thru-axle (included)

Very nice metal!

It presented a few surprizes on build up because I am used to classic road bikes but frame configuration will keep this senior rider riding longer.

Pretty spectacular

The bike is light weight and beautiful. Really the best of both worlds.

Just wanted to say how much we are enjoying our new Low kickers. The salmon-orange powdered coated one came out great and now they make a great pair with slightly different setups: a 1x11 and a 2x10. Both are shifted with Rivendell thumbies and I am happy to report the 11-51/Deore long cageDR on the 1x maxes out the entire possible cable stretch but it works without any other hardware!

With our daughter coming out as nonbinary, we became much more aware of gender preconceptions and even the bicycle is no exception...
I learned to ride on my grandma’s step through: when I got a little taller and I could actually sit on it she gave it to me as my first bike. I wasn’t too happy about riding a old “ladies" bike, but my Grandma being an artist would waste no time teaching me how to make it my own: Paint it, customize it: make it yours…
So after first removing the rubberbands on the rear fender (skirt protection of the day) the fenders came off - then a messy bubbly, drippy paintjob and some neon red PVC-foil work…and voila: it felt like my bike and it looked pretty much like my new Low-kicker!

Seems like the bike industry is catching up to more gender free concepts of bike riding: not just old school male racing and comfy lo-geared lady bikes… everything can be anything! Make it your own, be comfortable, sporty or whatever - mix it up… and Velo Orange for sure is an awesome place to get into this!

I love the convenience of the step trough design and how alive the Low kicker feels! Without much knowledge about bike geometry, it feels nimble and just fun, wether goin uphill, downhill - over some light gravel or just cruising on the paved LA river bike path on a sunny California day!

Our 10 year old Chihuahua mix was a little suspicious of our new activity at first but she is getting used to the front basket perspective - as long as we do stop for some walk breaks!

We are looking forward to taking the bikes on longer bike tours sometime soon and hope this is the just beginning to new adventures!

Beautiful frame and paint finish! I'm in the process of sourcing all of the parts for my custom build. I wanted a bike that I could easily mount and dismount, as I'm older now. Intent is for casual riding around the neighborhood and near the beach. Can't wait to finish it!

The PERFECT frame

Can be built into a dozen different styles of bike to suit your mood. That is, if you have the parts stash :-). My one and only wish is that the fork was able to hold 15x100 hubs (OD of hub flange is too large by 1.5 mm) so I could more easily switch to a more off-road wheel for off-trail adventuring.
