Randonneur Front Rack, Cantilever
This is a stainless steel front rack that is perfect for a handlebar bag, tied-down dry bag, or basket.
All Velo Orange racks are made from polished tubular stainless steel, so they will never rust, flake, and can be re-polished to a mirror shine even after years of use. As with our other racks, there are light mounts on the side of the platform. The platform is 20.7 cm long and 10.2 cm wide. The tombstone (backstop) is 9.5 cm tall.
If you plan on getting into offroad exploration, we suggest using a toe strap on the bottom of your bag to ensure it says put over the rough stuff.
If you are getting a custom frame made, we suggest sending the rack to the builder beforehand.
12lbs (5.4kg) max weight capacity.
All mounting hardware is included. Installation instructions found here.
This rack requires the use of cantilever brake bosses. Works best with canti posts that are between 75 and 80 mm wide. Use our Randonneur Front Rack if you don't have cantilever brakes.
Please note: mounting our rack to Paul Component brakes requires the use of Paul's special rack bolts and spacers.
No complaints — fits the wald 137 and sugar loaf basket bag perfectly.
Easy to install and has mounting points for lights as well.
I just went on my first mixed road and gravel tour. The metal strut which connects the rack to the fork crown snapped right across one of the holes. I've since learned that a hole in a material is called a "stress riser". I find it somewhat funny that none of the small zip ties holding the basket to this rack have failed. I stabilized it somewhat for the ride home with a Voile strap.
Anyway, I have another, less strenuous tour planned for this coming weekend and I've ordered another strut. My plan is to
- avoid bending it where there are holes
- avoid bending it so that it is under any tension/compression
This rack is so great! It works perfectly with my surly long haul trucker and I put a Wald basket on top for my commuting needs. Easy to install myself (I’m not a super mechanical person) and hold a good amount of weight.
The adjustable top mount is hinky. The welded, fixed version was better.
Light, goodlooking, works perfectly as a classy yet sturdy support for a wire basket too.
