Microfiber Touring Saddle, Wide
Here's a vegan-friendly saddle designed for folks who keep their handlebars at or above saddle height. The idea was to make a wider and lightweight saddle that feels something like suede and has a classic appearance thanks to a microfiber top. In addition, there are loops for a saddlebag.
At 165mm wide it's about the same width as a VO Model 3 or Brooks B17 leather saddle. But this is somewhat deceptive because there are no rivets or a flaring leather "skirt." So the sitting area is comparable to a slightly wider leather model. At 425gm the weight is significantly less than that of a modern leather saddle. Length is 282mm, about the same as a Model 3.
The microfiber's texture keeps you from sliding around and it's weather resistant. The body is thermo-plastic with a layer of high density foam. The rails are chromoly.
Feels perfect, looks great, reasonable price, cruelty free and bag loops! What’s not to love? Thank you!
My butt & legs to get fatigued on touring-sized leather saddles about 20-30 miles in so I though I would give this saddle a try: I'm a tall, heavy person and leather tends to stretch with my sit-bones resting on the metal frame, or foam gets quickly compressed and worn out.
60 miles in and this saddle is great! I ride with my bars about 1" below the saddle. Comfortable from the get-go and stayed comfortable hours and miles later on multiple rides. The foam is very dense, downright firm, and seems very resilient. It's a nice alternative to leather saddles, and the lack of a deep leather apron means the arteries in the back of my leg don't get compressed and I don't tire as quickly. While I'm accustomed to slippery saddles, I like the grip of the microfiber as I have a tendency to slide forward given my preferred saddle tilt and this counteracts that.
I am looking forward to trying the narrower version for my more aggressive drop-bar bike!
As the title says, the sizing is right. The saddle looks good and feels good but only as long as I stay in the same spot. I like to move around in my saddle and the microfibre material makes me stick to my bike more than I would like. I would have preferred brown and smooth but only the black smooth saddle was stocked at the time.
Now it just sits in my parts bin and I went back to my 10 year old Terry saddle.
