Quill Stem with Removable Faceplate
Now, there is no limit to the cockpit setup for your classic roadie, tourer, mtb, or any other bike with a 1" threaded steerer. These stems feature a simple 2-bolt removable faceplate for use with any and all handlebars including modern bars with 31.8mm clamp diameters and "alt-bars" such as our Crazy Bar. The 90 degree extension makes for a bit of rise without looking out of place on a custom build. Available in three cool finishes!
- Clamp: 31.8mm
- Quill Diameter: 22.2mm (for 1" steerer)
- Angle: 0deg
- Height above insert: 130mm
- Weight: 395g (100mm size)
This is one of those "why didn't I think of this!" products. With the modern road and mtb handlebar diameters vs old school quill stems... this new kind of stem resolves an issue for those old quills and old frames. I might get a 3rd stem (I have two now) for another project I am putting together. I give this stem 10 thumbs up!
Without going to Nitto this is the best looking 31.8 quill stem on the market and it has enough adjustability to be very functional!
I love this stem and what it did for my old Bridgestone. Original stem was pretty...unattractive, and this opens up a world of handlebar options. The 90 degree is great for a little rise without looking off.
VO even sent me a replacement faceplate at no charge because of a minor cosmetic defect in the nickel plate. Oh and the nickel looks verrrry nice in person.
I’ve enjoyed Velo Orange components over the years. The quill stem hibernated in it velvet bag on a shelf in the garage before emerging for its true purpose: My latest project: a New Albion Microbrew mini-velo. This is a niche product but I’m so great full that VO offers it. If bridges the chasm in cockpits: 1” treaded headsets and 31.8’bars. Removable faceplate opens up a range of bars!
Don’t let the slender looks and 2 bolt face plate fool you this stem is stiff. Helped the Microbrew scoot and cut like a racing go cart.
The Velo Orange quill stem with removable faceplate is the best solution to modernize an older bike and use a 31,8mm handlebar. The angle is perfect for a gravel bike (Litespeed Appalachian) great looking and solid for off road biking ;)
